For the fifth successive year, students from Theodor-Heuss-Gymnasium Essen spent two weeks interning at companies in Atlanta, mostly GAC Foundation members. The very popular program was once again supported by the GAC Foundation and gave the students the opportunity to gain first-hand experience of the American working world and culture.
“My internship at HBS, a law firm in Atlanta, was a memorable experience and excellent opportunity to get to know the American culture and people better. Especially, the interaction (e.g. lunch breaks) with my co-workers allowed me to get an insight into the American way of life.” – Laura Irrgang
“My internship at Occupational Healthworx, a Norcross-based clinic focused on occupational medicine was a unique experience and an amazing opportunity for the exchange of German and American cultures. The American people I got to meet were incredibly friendly and I felt extremely fortunate to intern at a corporation with such an inclusive and open-minded environment.” – Sophie Brach
“Our stay in Atlanta was a great experience for both of us. We interned at United Soft Plastics and stayed with a host family nearby. At USP, we had the unique chance to get to know American corporate culture as well as day-to-day operations. The cultural exchange was awesome. We discovered and participated in American culture and were part of their family for two weeks. Interesting discussions and conversations with our host family about politics, views and everyday-life helped not only us but also our host family to understand and learn about each other’s perspectives and attitudes.” – Maximilian Kilimann and Dominic Detering
“I couldn’t have asked for a better place to volunteer at than Goethe Zentrum. Even though I only had the possibility to stay for two weeks, I learned what Goethe stands for and met the most open-hearted and helpful people, some of whom are part of the German culture in Atlanta. Atlanta and its people made my stay an unforgettable experience that brought me forward in my future career choices.” – Eva Bensberg
“During my time in Atlanta, I interned at Hofmann Services and was able to use my theoretical Business English knowledge in practice. I stayed with a very nice host family, which gave me a great insight into the American way of life. Not only was I able to learn more about the American culture in the everyday life of a family, but also experience what it is like to work in an American corporation.” – Paul Grunau
