The town twinning between Nuremberg and Atlanta still consists after 14 years of working on the relationship of the three main columns which were defined in the partnership contract from 1998: economy, education and culture.
One point which supports the success of the partnership is the US American establishment of the NürnbergMesse. There is a constant exchange of workers between Nuremberg and Atlanta and the NürnbergMesse North America offers possibilities for internships in Atlanta.
The chief of police from Atlanta travelled to Nuremberg as a guest of honor to the opening of the new part of the trade fair Enforce Tac (hunting and sport guns, outdoor and requirement of departments). Chief Turner was really impressed of the big selection of the IWA & OutdoorClassic. In the exchange with the chief of police of Nuremberg they found parallels and differences in the structure and the way of working in the different departments. Furthermore they compared crime statistics and they saw that every country has other problems especially because of the different Weapons Act.
The expert for environment in Nuremberg Dr. Peter Pluschke participated at the third “Sister Cities Economic Development Global Partnership Forum” in Atlanta and that was the beginning idea of the first conference of climate protection of the metropolis Nuremberg with the topic “EnergyFuture today – Cities and rural districts as players for the climate protection”. In April there was an international conference with international experts with the topic sustainable energies. The international energy conference in Nuremberg was connected in time and content to the EUSEW (European Sustainable Energy Week) and the Keynote Speech was hold from an expert from Atlanta, Dennis Creech. His presentation was about “The Atlanta Way – Public and Private Partnerships to reduce greenhouse” and his Southface Energy Institute in Atlanta. Many people have the desire of a connection with Southface.
This year the Sister-Cities will celebrate 15 years of successful town twinning and we have good chances to greet the present mayor in Nuremberg. They concentrated the celebrations of 15 years of partnership in February 2013 because it’s the “Black History Month” in the Unites States.
